Every once in a while, we like to show off one of our hard-working, detail-oriented problem solvers. Take a moment to see who's in the spotlight today!

Name: Brendan O’Shea

1st Day at Avalon: 2/15/2022

Current Position: Forensic Technician II

Tell us “your story.” How did you end up at Avalon?

I worked at another company for over 11 years and was simultaneously working on my M.S. in Information Security and Digital Forensics. At the time, I was searching for a job that better aligned with my education, when a recruiter for Avalon reached out me. The rest is history.

What’s your favorite thing about Avalon?

The people and the culture. Some of the nicest people you will ever meet work here.

What’s your favorite thing about your position at Avalon?

You never know what the day will bring. We get opportunities to try new device collections and methods regularly, as technology is constantly changing. Additionally, I enjoy working with clients on exports and seeing their excitement with our products.

What is your proudest moment at Avalon?

My first solo onsite collection. I was able to successfully collect 20-year-old RAID servers. We were able to rebuild these and get our clients the files they needed.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

A typical workday for me includes doing collections – either computers, phones, or storage devices – and often several each day. I also do mobile device exports for clients and Relativity.

What’s your favorite workplace memory?

There are so many, but I love the “MyAvalon Events.” They bring people who normally work from home into the office or elsewhere to get together. It’s always a fun time getting together with everyone, whether it’s going to eat lunch with the Buffalo Sabres or just getting together for board games.

What are you listening to right now (music/podcast/audio book)?

At the time I am writing this, it is just days before Christmas. I recreated my late father’s Christmas playlist on YouTube and have been embracing that during the holiday season.

What’s a blog or book that you’ve read recently and why?

I have really been neglecting reading lately. I do, however, have plans to reread the Harry Potter series. My goal is to finish the first book before Season 1 premiers on HBO Max, so I can compare the books to the television series.

What’s your favorite motivational quote?

“You say impossible, but all I hear is I’m possible.” – Ted Lasso

If you could go anywhere on vacation, where would it be and why?

My top vacation choice would probably be Bora Bora. Living in the greater Buffalo area my entire life, I rarely get to see the ocean and enjoy tropical weather. Bora Bora is often referred to as “Paradise on Earth.” Second to that, anywhere in Europe. Europe’s history goes back so much further than the United States and I love the old architecture.

If you were stuck on an island and could only bring three things, what would they be?

A tent, a hammock, and a book (as long as it’s a tropical island).

What do you do for fun?

I enjoy hiking with my wife and our dog; spending time with family, friends, and our cat; video games; and going to concerts.

What Happens When We’re TOO Anxious to Rule on AI Issues?

As courts start to confront how generative AI fits into privilege and workproduct doctrine, early decisions are already pointing in different directions. United States v. Heppner is often cited as a warning signal, but it should not be read as establishing a general rule about AI and privilege. The legal community is chomping at the bit for AI-related case law, but we need to proceed carefully.

Why aiR for Review is Worth Your Time

Relativity’s aiR for Review isn’t just another tool; it’s like having an extra set of sharp, tireless eyes on your team. Powered by generative AI, it mimics the efforts of a human reviewer, combing through documents and identifying exactly what matters, but with much better precision and consistency.
